Are you considering staying on campus? The Swannanoa Gathering is not a conference center or a resort, but a music camp held on the Warren Wilson College campus. Since many of the social activities that foster the sense of community we are striving for take place outside of class – at mealtimes, in the evenings, at jam sessions and dances, all participants are encouraged to be in residence on campus during the week if at all possible. Those with special needs should include a detailed, written description of those needs with their registration materials.
Housing is available for students and staff of the Swannanoa Gathering in the college residence halls. Rooms are double-occupancy with communal bath facilities. Small deposits for residence hall keys and meal cards will be required on arrival.
There are many features common to all residence halls: Linens will be provided and will be in your room when you arrive; you will be supplied towels (bath and hand), washcloth, sheets and pillowcase as well as one light blanket and one pillow. As these linens may not be what you’re used to at home, you may wish to bring an extra towel, favorite pillow and heavier blanket. Some Gathering attendees have found that a mattress pad or inexpensive twin-size foam mattress cover really does help make the beds more like home. Parents with small children staying in the residence hall with adults will need to provide the child’s bedding, including air mattress or cot, pillow, blanket and linens. Click here for a list of suggested items to bring. Smoking is not permitted in or near any campus buildings. No pets please. Each residence hall has its own laundry facility, a full kitchen, and a common area. Each room has a phone jack and Ethernet connections or wireless connection (allowing you to connect directly into the campus network for high-speed internet access). Given our mountain location, with cool temperatures in the mornings and evenings, many find that air-conditioning is often not needed, and all rooms have opening windows. We do recommend bringing a room fan with you if possible as daytime summer temps can make the rooms warm. Most rooms have two beds with single 37″x80″ mattresses. In addition to the beds, each room typically has two dressers, two closets or wardrobes, and two desks. All windows are equipped with blinds. All rooms are well-lighted, but a study lamp for your desk might be a good idea.
We offer on-campus housing in a variety of residence halls on campus. Housing costs vary depending on the type of accommodation chosen (private or shared housing). Housing is not available without the meal plan, but a separate meal plan can be purchased for those living off-campus. Housing options include:
- Housing & Meals in a Shared Room – $540. :: includes a double-occupancy room for six nights, supper on Sunday, three buffet-style meals a day at the college cafeteria in Gladfelter Student Center, and breakfast on Saturday at the end of the week. These are all dormitory-style rooms with two twin beds and a bath accessible from the hallway.
- Housing & Meals in a Private Room – $770. :: a limited number of single rooms are available for an additional $230. fee. Single-occupancy room for six nights, supper on Sunday, three buffet-style meals a day at the college cafeteria in Gladfelter Student Center, and breakfast on Saturday at the end of the week. These are private dormitory-style rooms with two twin beds and a bath accessible from the hallway.
- Housing with children – Those bringing children should indicate so on their registration form. Children under 12 may stay in a room with two adults, at least one of whom is a registered student, at no charge, other than the cost of meals. The accompanying adult should provide each child’s bedding (mattress, sheets, blankets, pillow), and both adults must request the arrangement. In the case of a single adult with child(ren), they will be housed together and charged an additional $230. for the week as long as space permits.
- MEALS: Wholesome and plentiful meals are served in the Gladfelter Student Center. The school grows many of its vegetables and produces milk and dairy products. Vegetarian, low-sodium and vegan selections are available at all meals. Our experienced kitchen staff plans daily menus to meet the needs of students with food allergies. The college is catered by Sodexho (828-298-1041). Adults staying off campus may purchase a meal ticket for $180., and meal tickets for children under 12 may be purchased for $140. Meals may also be purchased individually. Meals are not served in the cafeteria on Saturday during lunch and dinner, or Sunday during breakfast and lunch.
- STAY-OVERS: We are no longer offering Saturday stay-overs. If you are attending two consecutive weeks, however, you can remain in your same room through the weekend in between.
- NON-STUDENTS: As long as space permits, we will continue to allow a non-student living outside the Asheville area to accompany an enrolled student and be housed with them in student residence halls for payment of the $540. housing fee and an activity fee of $200., which allows admission to all events except classes. There is a $50. deposit required to register as a non-student.
- OFF-CAMPUS LODGING: There are various hotels/motels, airbnbs, B&Bs, and camping/RV sites in the area. Early reservations are recommended due to the popularity of the area with tourists. Link to search area lodgings.
